From Acorns to Oaks - Barby C of E Primary School Visits the Site
October 2023
This week all the children from Barby C Of E Primary School have visited Barby Meadow Woods over 3 busy days. From as far back as when the project was a concept we've engaged with the school and the Headteacher Mrs Bedi has always been very supportive and keen for the children to be involved. Our vision is that this group of children will be able to witness the evolution of the site from a unique perspective over the coming decades, and benefit from a forest school to aid their learning about nature.
"The children have been extremely excited about the woodlands and the thought of them having their own tree in the village and contribute to the wildlife and landscape of the village is really inspiring. The children have all made positive comments and thoroughly enjoyed their visit. They are looking forward to planting and it was the children who were keen to somehow have identification on their own tree so they could watch it grow over time and show it off. A great opportunity! Thank you."
Mrs Suman Bedi, Headteacher, Barby CE Primary School
Guided by our head of education Nat Kimberley, they have seen where the Woodland Trust
will be planting and where the community trees including their tree will be
planted. This week we have also agreed to support obtaining the resources we need to establish an excellent forest school/educational site for the children to benefit from over the coming years.
The enthusiasm and excitement from the children was inspiring and are all very excited to see their trees grow as they do! Each child will have a tree each to plant and a small tag with their name on it to identify it. They played ‘Eagle Eye’ and ‘Fox and Rabbits’ as we talked about what animals might
live in the woodland. The Acorns, Conkers and Chestnuts classes made magic Barby
potions to help make the trees grow.
