One of our core goals is to create a functioning native woodland ecosystem that is a valuable habitat for wildlife. This is an ever evolving project and we are fortunate to already have areas of established woodland, grass meadow, a dew pond and some areas of wetland on the site.
Nature
Through 2023 we will be documenting what the site contains in its current form so we have a baseline to gauge how the site is evolving over time.
We have already observed muntjac and roe deer on the site and the dew pond shows plenty of evidence of animals coming for water.
We will be building a list of the current tree and shrub species on site and have been visually documenting the site as you can see in our gallery.
Education
The project will be a wonderful showcase of nature and will grow and change each year, something which the Committee feel is a valuable educational resource for generations to come.
"From tiny acorns, mighty oaks grow"
Barby C of E Primary School pupils will be involved in the Community planting project and are excited to be involved ongoing. The children will be able to have regular visits and experience its evolution as they move up the school years.
