Our Inaugural Volunteer Day

July 2023

On the 29th July we welcomed our first volunteers to the site. It was great to show people around the area and explain our plans and ideas, plus get feedback and people's thoughts back in return. Whilst we've circulated our plans many times before, quite a few volunteers had never walked the public footpath which runs through the site and were wowed by the fabulous views.

For the day we had 8 volunteers in addition in our Trustee's, in total we now have a pool of 23 volunteers who have pledged their help with the project which is a wonderful start and reinforces all the messages of support and excitement we've had from the community.

Many hands make light work

The area comprises of woodland 30, 20 and 10 years old. Some of the newer woodland still had protective tree spirals in place so we wanted to clear those. There was also a great deal of rubbish, old dumped fence materials and even an old tent where we believe someone tried to live for a period of time.

In a relatively short space of time we managed to clear a large area of the site from rubbish, old tree spirals, barbed wire, fencing and discarded metal which was essentially littering the site - we had 10 bin bags and 2 builders back to dispose of by the end!
